Nexcom, a company that provides industrial automation, mobile computing, and networking products and solution, launched All IoT Cloud, their new attempt to solve the IoT product development problem.
“IoT is a very diversified market, and we believe that it is unlikely that there will be a standard or protocol to ‘rule them all.’ Our vision for All IoT Cloud is for it to be a platform that combines media, B2B marketplace, and incubation service for IoT product development that caters to startups, developers, and innovators,” said Joe Shen, Chief Architect of Nexcom’s new IoT business venture, All IoT Cloud. As a senior product manager that has over 20 years of experience in the tech industry, this vision is what brings Joe to launch the All IoT Cloud platform this year.
“Nexcom’s main business is IPC and Industrial 4.0 related products and solutions, and targeted customers are relatively centralised and easy to locate with traditional sales methods. However, when we want to venture into the more diversified IoT market we found the need of matchmaking and ecosystem building services to be extremely important, thus we came up with the idea for this platform.” Joe explained when asked about the origin of All IoT Cloud.
Building a Tribe of IoT Developers and Innovators
According to Joe, there are three phases of the platform rollout that will span the course of the future few years.
In the first phase, the company will host an online media and forum that shares and prompts the discussion of the latest IoT news, trends, and viewpoints. The goal is not for profit, but to build a tribe or community with similar interests.
“We are very passionate in sharing our ideas with startups and developers and innovators. We want to attract people with similar mindsets, ideas, and needs to stay on our platform and find something here.” Joe said.
The platform will be bilingual in English and Chinese, serving businesses and teams in the Asia area and internationally. The main purpose of the first-phase platform rollout is to build a tribe of developers, makers, and innovators that have similar interests, exploit and harness their unused developing power, and direct it to fill businesses need for developing next generation IoT products and services.
A basic B2B marketplace will also be launched during the first phase to provide sales of IoT product development related hardware, for example: development kits, and components such as sensors and gateway.
Virtual Incubator for IoT Product Development
“Since our platform is focused on servicing the B2B needs for IoT, we will continue to enhance our B2B marketplace in the second phase. This marketplace will additionally provide matchmaking and connection of IoT software services and consulting services that caters to business needs” Joe said.
In the second phase, the B2B virtual marketplace will additionally provide matchmaking service for businesses to find resources for IoT software integration and development, for example, service that assists businesses to find team for integration of firmware, app and cloud services. And consulting services such as crowdfunding or fundraising consulting.
“We want our platform to evolve into a portal for IoT business needs. It will be a maker friendly space that provides one stop shopping experience for businesses that are making IoT products.” Joe explained. “In the second phase of our platform rollout, we also want to bring influencers of the IoT industry on our platform and share their insights with our members and vice versa provide an opportunity for the ideas and creativity of our members to be showcased to the giants in the industry.”
In the third phase, Nexcom plans to bring funding service to platform members, which includes product crowdfunding, and angel funding.
Aside from the ambitious platform plan mentioned above, the All IoT Cloud team is also putting together development tools that can serve as the fundamentals building blocks for IoT product development, so innovators and developers can focus on their ideas and creativity.
“Nexcom has a collection of IoT related SDKs, software, and modules accumulated from years of product development and projects. And we want to open them up to our members so they can leverage it to speed up the coding process and shorten their production cycle.”
The development tool is named IoT Studio, packaged as a drag and drop builder with intuitive GUI which is cloud service ready and open-sourced to collaboration. Robot, digital signage, webRTC, and smart home related software and modules in the development tool suite are also available.
Plans on the Smart Home Market
“Regarding plans for the smart home market, we have experience in small smart home projects, such as CO2 sensors connected with Zigbee.”
Joe believe that the future of smart home lies in total solutions that is robust and closely integrated. In the middle term, they aim to develop a smart home kit that includes software, gateway, and sensors for moisture, temperature, motion, pressure, etc for the DIY and home maker market.
“There are a lot of unexplored opportunities in the IoT industry out there today and even more talented people that have the capability of seizing these opportunities; our mission is to provide the basis that can kickstart and facilitate the creation of these projects.” Joe concluded.
