Besides Amazon’s smart speakers, Fire TV or tablets, there’s now a new hardware that is compatible with Alexa – a smartwatch introduced by Martian.
Martian Watches announced it has added Alexa voice control to its mVoice line of smartwatches. Now mVoice smartwatch users can dim the lights or turn on a security camera by talking to their wrist, instead of moving to wherever Alexa-enabled devices are located.
Martian’s mVoice watches are similar to traditional watches, with a small OLED screen at the bottom to show notifications. Before the Alexa introduction, the display has shown things like incoming calls, text messages and upcoming calendar events.
With the added Alexa functionality, users can download the Martian Voice & Alerts Alexa app and gain access the over 5,000 Alexa skills. For example, users can tell the smartwatch to play music, get weather and traffic reports, order products from Amazon or control Alexa-enabled connected home devices.
Martian’s mVoice watches is not the first type of smartwatch to work with Alexa. The CoWatch made by IMCO is the first Amazon-enabled smartwatch in the market. However, compared to CoWatch’s $309 price tag, mVoice is a more affordable option with priced around $160.
Guess Connect watches which include the Martian module with a microphone and speaker, will also get the Alexa capabilities.
Martian watches have been in the market since 2013. They keep the classic watch design but provide smart features and display smartphone notifications on the secondary display.
The mVoice product line was introduced in early 2016, featuring a built-in noise canceling microphone and a speaker which allows users to make phone calls and write text messages by speaking to their watches.
