Liquid panel display (LCD) maker Innolux and fingerprint hardware manufacturer Next Biometrics have agreed on a partnership to mass-produce flexible fingerprint sensors for use in smart homes, reports said earlier this week.
According to Biometrics' press release, the two companies expect to churn out two million flexible sensors per month in 2017, and will ramp up production to 10 million units by 2018.
Norwegian-based NEXT Biometrics' product line currently includes a wide range of product formats including Smart Cards, Smartphones, Tablets, PC's, Doors, Time registration systems, Wearables, Payment terminals, Flashdrives, USB-tokens, Key fobs, and so forth. The mass-produced sensors will also be adopted in smart home devices.
In the release, NEXT Biometrics CEO Tore Etholm-Idsøe said: “We have made significant progress during the recent months, and we are proud to announce that Innolux will now invest money, time and knowledge along with NEXT Biometrics to bring the flexible sensors to the world market.”
