Chinese tech company, Xiaomi, enters Indian smart home market by introducing its air purifier product Mi Air Purifier 2.
The Mi Air Purifier 2 lets users to control and monitor air quality in the room via a smartphone app. According to Xiaomi, the air purifier can remove 99 percent PM 2.5 particles, such as dust, benzene, allergens, harmful chemicals, and harmful gases, and is able to purify a 21 square-meter room in ten minutes under its high speed mode. The Clean Air Delivery Rate(CADR) of the product is up to 310 cubic meters per hour.
Users can set different mode, such as less-noisy night mode while sleeping, auto mode for the mornings and power off when nobody's home. Once finishing the set-up, the device records and repeats the daily pattern unless changes were made.
On a hazy day, the device would send alerts the users' phone, notify them to close the window, and send another notification when the air is clear. Also, the purifier does not require internal cleaning. It would notify users on their smartphones to change the filter every three to six months, and users can order new filters directly from the app.
According to Xiaomi, the device is 40 percent more compact and uses 58% less energy than the first version. Under normal mode, it operates under a low power consumption of 4.8W.
After receiving the market success in India with affordable smartphones and tablets, Xiaomi enters the country's smart home market with its Mi Ecosystem series product line.
The company introduces the air purifier product as the first for a reason. The World Health Organization (WHO) once reported that ten Indian cities are listed among the world’s top 20 most polluted cities. The Indian city Gwalior was marked as the second most air-polluted city in the world.
However, most Indian families don't have air purifiers at home due to the product's relative high price in the country. Xiaomi sells Mi Air Purifier 2 for about $100 in China, and is expected to price $150 in India.
The company entered India market back in 2014 with its affordable smartphone Mi 3. Since then, it has become one of the most popular smartphone brand in the market due to its hardware quality and budget price.
Later this year, Xiaomi plans to bring more products to India, including fitness band Mi Band 2 and Android TV application device Mi Box.
