Grandex International Corporation is a Taiwan-based company, offering OEM and ODM services on in-car, home, and mobile entertainment segments. Its product lines consist of home automation systems, Wi-Fi products, in-car DAB receivers, antennas and accessories, DAB radio, and internet USB media players. Its factories are located in both Taiwan and China.
Grandex’s DIY home automation solution oTTo, running on RF2.4GHz frequency, allows users to control door/window sensors, and home appliances through light switches, dimmers and power outlets. Users can control the smart devices via the remote or the app on their smartphones or tablets. Users can program the PS350 Remote to activate groups of lights or custom scenario setting. PS430 Door/window sensor is used to activate lights or even sound an alarm when there is an intruder.
Besides hardware, the company designs its own cloud platform. oTTo provides schedule setting and smart rule designs for user to automate their homes in an intelligent way and with scenario and even-based setting to differentiate itself from others. Moreover, its solutions support multiple user accounts to allow multiple users to control lights or smart devices at home.
Alex Wu, CTO of Grandex indicated the interoperability and safety can be critical issues for the mass adoption. “We prefer to offer the proprietary system for high interoperability, reliability and safety. Our RF2.4GHz system supports up to 120 devices at home based on mesh network technology, being operated throughout the four floors” To ensure data security, the company prefers to collect and store data in the private cloud. Users can access and store data in oTTo hub via the SD card as the local storage media.
Talking to the next-generation designs, Wu said the company will launch presence sensors based on Bluetooth Beacon technology. In addition, it will launch a smoke detector in Q4 2015 with built-in siren, and temperature and humidity sensors. The product is designed with smart algorithm to lower false alarm rate.
