Brightup is a home automation system that consists of a hub, smart plugs and optional in-wall dimmers. The hub communicates locally with the smart plugs to control connected appliances; it also connects to Brightups cloud service to enable remote controlling via Brightups smartphone app and also to log energy consumption.
The companys primary market is Germany, as it is Europes largest consumer electronics and smart home market. Its next step will be to expend to other German-speaking countries, such as Austria and Switzerland. US customers are out of luck in the short term, as regulation and certification hurdles are a bit too much for the company at the moment.
Brightup is currently at roughly 30 percent of its crowdfunding goal on Indiegogo, with 20 more days to go. If its busy booth at CeBIT is any indication, it won’t have any problems reaching that goal.
