Taiwanese home solution and networking company Full Enterprise Corp. showcased their aim to combine IoT with smart caring for the elders. With the assistance of improved software and hardware, Angus Shih, Product Manager at IoT Solution of Full Enterprise Corp. Taiwan, said that AI can change and improve home experience for the elders, and build a safe and friendly environment for them.
In March 2017, elder population above 65 years old exceeds 14% in Taiwanese society, and is estimated to reach 20% by 2025. As the aging population raised concern of caring the elders, Full Enterprise Corp. emphasized the importance of technical aids. “We would like to build a friendly environment that connects people, technical gadgets and space at home,” said Shih.
Combing the security and smart caring, family members can access the app or cloud platform to see if the elders need assistance by the real-time video. They can also connect the wireless module to different aids, to monitor the elders’ health status, or create a more convenient home for them. For example, with the IR sensor installed at home, it can effectively reduce the chance of the elders to tumble in the dark, or can automatically connect to the light to turn it on. “We also focus on ‘one click function’ and ‘voice control’ to simplify all controllable devices, so that the elders can easily manipulate every function on the same remote control or simple movement,” explained Shih.
On the other hand, it is also possible to combine GPS tracker into a crutch or wheelchair, and preset dangerous areas in the program and the emergency call function connecting to the wireless platform. In this way, when the elders accidentally step into a dangerous area, or when they forget the way home, the system can automatically guide them to the right path, or notify their family members for help.
“Care to the elders has no distance. We aim to deliver a total care solution for the elders with high tech and minimum manpower. As the technical aids can help to remain their life quality, the elders can enjoy a friendly living environment and have a happier life,” said Shih.
