Lenovo, a China-based consumer electronics company, has introduced a new product line called Smart Home Essentials at IFA 2018, officially extending the company’s presence in the smart home market.
The new product line includes a security camera, a smart light bulb and a smart plug. The company intends to provide a simple package option to smart home users and DIY home systems architects.
A mobile app called the Lenovo Link serves as the central control center for all Lenovo smart home devices. Home users can also control these connected devices via Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa besides the Lenovo Smart Display device.
The Lenovo Smart Plus is a Wi-Fi connected smart plug. It will turn compatible devices into smart ones to be controlled remotely. It will arrive in November for US$30.
The Lenovo Smart Bulb supports color temperature and brightness adjustments, with an estimated 15,000-hour lifetime. It will also cost US$30, arriving in November.
The Lenovo Smart Camera features night vision up to 20 meters, 355-degree horizontal and 120-degree vertical field of view, motion detection and two-way audio. Users can view real-time footage anywhere from the mobile app and talk to people at the camera via the built-in two-way microphone. The camera will be launched in the first quarter of 2019 for US$100.
The new products make Lenovo’s smart home offering more complete, after introducing the Lenovo Smart Display, a Google Assistant-powered smart home hub with a touchscreen. The new products are targeted at Western markets for they support Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant.
In China, Lenovo established a new smart home arm Lecoo back in April. The new business first introduced four products: a smart router, a baby monitor and two security cameras.
The company plans to expand product categories in the Smart Home Essentials as well as the Lecoo arm in China.
