LG has launched new “smart” LED bulbs that can be controlled by a smartphone via Bluetooth LE. The LED bulbs do not require any additional hardware and can be simply installed by replacing an existing incandescent bulb.
Aside from the power efficiency and longevity of LED bulbs, LG’s smart bulbs can also be controlled via a smartphone and tablet app, which is available on Android 4.3 and higher and iOS 6.0 and higher.
Users can also set the bulbs to slowly light up with (or without) an alarm, or set the bulbs to turn on or off the lights at specific times. The bulbs can also be set to automatically flash when a smartphone receives calls. In addition, Android users can set the lights to pulse according to music that is current playing.
The new bulbs are launched in Korea first and are priced at roughly $30. No word on international availability yet.
