Smart lighting company Legrand has introduced new products under its Radiant collection with the Open Connectivity Foundation (OCF) certification.
According to Legrand, lighting devices from the Radiant collection are the first of its kind to be certified by the Open Connectivity Foundation (OCF), an industry group developing standards for the Internet of Things. It allows Radiant devices to work with other OCF-certified IoT devices regardless of brands or operating systems.
Companies such as LG, Samsung, Microsoft, Comcast and Honeywell Home are also on the member list of the Open Connectivity Foundation.
The new Radiant collection, working via home Wi-Fi, includes several lighting products, such as connected light bulbs, switches, dimmers and plug-in units, saving the need to replace existing switches. Plug-in devices are usable out of the box while other in-wall devices will need 15 to 20 minutes to install.
Legrand’s devices were first unveiled at CES 2018, and now becomes available officially.
The company uses Samsung’s ARTIK cloud services to enable connection with other smart home products and services, including Amazon Echo, Google Home, Nest, Ring and IFTTT. With this technology, homeowners can now add their Legrand devices into a series of home automation actions. For instance, when a Ring doorbell is triggered, the Legrand lights will be turned on.
Samsung ARTIK, similar to Microsoft Azure, is an IoT platform which lets connected devices talk to each other.
“Voice control has quickly become the preferred method of control for homeowners. With the capability of connecting smart devices from other manufacturers, homeowners simply speak commands and enable activation of doors, thermostats and lighting for an entire smart home experience,” said Gerald Connolly, vice president and general manager of Pass and Seymour at Legrand, in a statement.
Besides using voice, homeowners may also control their Legrand lights via the companion mobile app, which allows for dimming, automation scheduling, grouping lights and scenes creation.
